I think we all have roles to play; once we get over the disappointment of realising that we are never going to be supermodels, famous lady novelists, astronauts or whatever, then it is time to abide by the rules of compromise. Most of us are nobodies. Apart from a few soap stars and a handful of pop singers, we all have to come out of the playground of make-believe eventually and take our responsibilities on the chin. You can't have excitement all the time; too much fun and too many sweeties only lead to tears before bedtime.
